SOS Open Days

Switched on Stories: Open Days

If you were one of the many people who came to one of our Open Days, thank you! We were blown away by the number of people who came along.

The days were designed for people to share the their stories, memories and memorabilia of the Lights of Leamington. All were captured by our team of wonderful volunteers.

They took place at Dormer Conference Centre and at All Saints’ Parish Church as part of the Leamington History Group’s Heritage Open Day.

Following a cuppa, our volunteers team chatted to participants and made notes about their stories. Each and every story is being documented and collated and will create a new story archive. This archive will have a permanent home in the Warwickshire County Records Office and will available to future historians.

On the day we filmed some people who had great stories to tell. We’re selecting some of these stories to talk to people in more depth. This material will create a number of new and exciting projects inclusing  an outdoor and indoor exhibition, film, website, podcasts and community information pamphlet.

Lights of Leamington:

Switched on Stories

Community Workshops

Whittle Productions would like to invite you to two free workshops in October which will share the background to this unique festival story and explore the role light has for you. The second workshop will focus on decorating clay Diya Lamps which will feature in the new exhibition.

Using money raised by National Lottery players, The National Lottery Heritage Fund supports projects that connect people and communities with the UK’s heritage. 'Switched on Stories' is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to capture and celebrate stories and memories of the original Lights of Leamington Festival.
